UPDATE 3: The problem is caused by Windows Security Update (KB5001330) So it seems like there is a Windows 10 update floating around that may cause issues with Retroarch. I restored my system and now the problem is gone. There was an option to check what was affected by the update and lo and behold Retroarch was on the top of the list. The restore point was made because there was a Windows 10 update.

UPDATE 2: I noticed when I was creating a system restore point before updating my video drivers that there was an automatic restore point made the day before the issue started. Still looking for a solution to fix the dual shock problem though. If I use a keyboard or 360 controller the crackling disappears.
UPDATE: The issue seems to be with dual shock controllers. I've tried reinstalling and the problem persists. Any help is greatly appreciated! I was half way through Resident Evil: Director's Cut when this happened. But now the audio seems to crack no matter what I do. I use the g-sync setting when using my computer monitor and the other method when using my tv.
When I first installed Retroarch I experienced audio crackling, but I managed to solve it by following these instructions. I think I accidentally applied messed up shader settings as a core/global preset, but now even without shaders on I am still getting the audio crackling. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but last night I was fiddling with the settings and I think I might have broken something because now when I open Retroarch there is a bad cracking sound when I'm using either core. I've had Retroarch set up and working for a couple weeks with Beetle PSX and Bettle PSX HW.
